But the real value of any machine is determined over time through reliability, output, and how well it is maintained. If you are currently researching [edgebanders for your workshop](https://tuckwellmach.com.au/new-woodworking-machinery/edgebanders/), understanding long-term performance and servicing requirements is just as important as choosing the right machine. We recently serviced an OAV 370P edgebander that we originally supplied and installed back in July 2021. The performance data from this machine highlights exactly what consistent maintenance can achieve. ## Performance After More Than 3 Years of Operation Here is what this machine has delivered so far: - **5,868 hours and 58 minutes of runtime** - **289,708 panels edged** - **195,883 metres of edging tape applied** To put that into perspective, that is roughly the distance from Burleigh Heads to Toowoomba in edging tape. This level of output has not come from pushing the machine beyond its limits. It is simply the result of consistent operation and proper care. ## The Key Factor: Preventative Maintenance While the machine itself plays an important role, the real reason behind this performance is straightforward: preventative maintenance. Since installation, this customer has maintained a regular servicing schedule every six months. This has ensured that the machine remains properly calibrated, aligned and operating as intended. As a result, they have experienced: - Minimal downtime - No major breakdowns - Consistent production output - Lower long-term maintenance costs ## What Happens Without Regular Edgebander Servicing? Skipping maintenance is one of the most common causes of issues with edgebanders. Over time, small problems can develop into larger faults, including: - Poor glue adhesion - Chipping or inconsistent edge finish - Machine misalignment - Increased wear on components - Unexpected breakdowns The most significant impact is often lost production time, which can quickly outweigh the cost of routine servicing. ## Why Preventative Maintenance Is Worth It Regular servicing is not just about avoiding breakdowns. It plays a critical role in maintaining performance and protecting your investment. A scheduled service can help: - Extend the lifespan of the machine - Maintain edge quality and finish - Reduce stress on motors and mechanical components - Identify and resolve issues early This approach allows workshops to operate consistently, rather than reacting to problems as they arise. ## Why Choosing the Right Supplier Matters Not all machinery suppliers offer the same level of support, and this is where many businesses get caught out. At Tuckwell Machinery, every machine is selected by experienced technicians who understand what performs reliably in real workshop environments. This ensures customers are investing in equipment that is built for long-term use, not short-term sales. Tuckwell Machinery has built a reputation over decades for delivering some of the best after-sales service in the industry. Their team does not just sell machines — they install them, maintain them, and provide ongoing support to keep workshops running efficiently. In fact, the business originally grew from servicing and repairing machinery. As their reputation for reliable breakdown support increased, customers began turning to them not only for repairs, but also for high-quality machinery they could depend on. This natural progression led to the expansion into both new and used machinery sales, and today includes their own branded range of affordable equipment for the woodworking, aluminium and sharpening industries — all backed by trusted support Australia-wide. If you are considering an [OAV edgebander](https://tuckwellmach.com.au/new-woodworking-machinery/edgebanders/oav-edgebanders/) or even a [portable edgebander](https://tuckwellmach.com.au/product/co-matic-br500-handheld-edgebander/), choosing a supplier that supports you long after the purchase is critical. ## Is Your Edgebander Due for a Service? If your machine has not been serviced recently, it may be time to schedule a check. Regular edgebander maintenance helps prevent downtime, protects production schedules and ensures consistent results across every job. ## Learn More or Book a Service If you are still deciding on the right machine, you can also read our guide on [choosing the best edgebander for your workshop](https://tuckwellmach.com.au/choosing-the-best-edgebander-for-your-small-to-medium-shop/).
